ByronBrownies was created for the love of chocolate.

Back in 2008, busy with my then home-based bakery ByronCake, the gluten revolution was in full swing. Many people were presenting with gluten allergies, and customers began asking for a gluten-free version of our Original Pecan brownie. This wheaty pecan morsel was a humble affair, lovingly and labouriously hand-cut into perfect squares and second fiddle to our range of cakes.

Up for the challenge to develop a flour replacement, I managed to source unblanched ground almonds from South Australia. This beautifully moist nutmeal became the foundation for our new flourless, wheatfree brownie.

Coupled with the winning combination of salted butter, dark couverture chocolate and Dutch cocoa, our decadent Pecan brownie hit the ground running. All in all, a consistent outpouring of deliciousness, with us producing an endless stream of cakes and brownies. Until a particularly exhausting week in the kitchen, followed by the completion of a cert. 4 in small Business, brought on an epiphany.

It was time to focus on developing the brownie range, and move on from cakes. In 2009, ByronBrownies was born. Floyd, our Quality Control expert and champion bowl licker inspired our logo and became our flagship image of joy.

Today, our small team of passionate chocaholics produce a range of brownies, handcrafted and baked in small batches.

We have baked for Bluesfest, Splendour, and the Mullumbimby music festival to name a few. All annual events and well loved by both local and international visitors. For those who know and enjoy our brownies, and for those who want to try our brownies, we now offer an option for online purchase. We at ByronBrownies are firm believers in the notion that chocolate really is a taste of happiness. After all, Floyd thinks so!
